How To Get Windows 10 for Free as a Student?
- Upgrade windows 7 enterprise to windows 10 education free
I am trying to upgrade my wife's laptop from Windows 7 Enterprise Edition SP1 which she got at her previous academic institution to Windows 10 Education Edition which we purchased via her current academic institution. I would like to do so by updating the existing Windows installation, not re-installing and effectively wiping all my installed software, setup, etc.
The guide that the University's IT website directs us to the generic Windows 10 installation media creation tool page. This Microsoft page suggests that it is possible to upgrade from Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Education. However, when I run that installation media creation tool, it says my version of Windows cannot be upgraded directly through the tool. Another post on this forum suggests that the problem is that the generic installation media guide doesn't know about Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education, and says you can download the ISO directly from the specific academic products download page.
However, at that link there is no longer any option to download an ISO as the old screenshot would suggest and I only have the option of downloading another installation media creation tool. I tried using that thinking perhaps it's a different tool , but it was the exact same tool that produced the exact same problem.
Therefore, could someone please advise how I can update the Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 without having to re-install everything? In the past I have previously successfully upgraded two PCs from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Pro, so it's a bit frustrating to run into this problem with the Enterprise and Education Editions.

Technet forums have experts who know much better the incidents associated with business problems, especially server configurations. Therefore, they will be better able to diagnose and determine what is causing the present incident. This is a forum more associated with Windows and Office for Home users.

It was unclear from the instructions, but you need to create the ISO media on the external USB drive and then from within Windows launch the setup file that is downloaded onto that external USB drive.
